+ Will this Outlook plug-in work with my version of Outlook?
This plug-in supports Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 and works with or without the Office 2003/2007 environment.
Note: Previous versions of Outlook (Outlook 2000, 2002) and Outlook Express are not supported.
+ Do I need to have an account with YouSendIt to use the service?
Yes, at a minimum you need to be a registered YouSendIt user to use the YouSendIt Lite FREE service from this Outlook plug-in. If you need more advanced service, you can subscribe to different
account types that best fit your needs.
+ Where should I go to configure this Outlook plug-in?
There is a "YouSendIt" button on the toolbar, which has a Configuration menu item in the dropdown as shown below.
+ When will Outlook use YouSendIt to send attachments?
It depends on the attachment preferences setting in the "YouSendIt -> Configuration..." dialog. If "All sizes" is checked then all the attachments will be sent via YouSendIt. If "Files bigger than x MB" option is checked and if the total size of all the attachments together is bigger than x MB, then the attachment will be sent via YouSendIt.
+ What are the size limits of the attachments that I can send with YouSendIt Outlook plug-in?
The size limits for uploading to YouSendIt depend on your account type registered with YouSendIt. Our free Lite account has a 100 MB size limit and paid accounts allow greater than 100MB file sizes. Please visit this
compare accounts page for different account type information.
+ How do I find out if an attachment has been sent through YouSendIt?
All outgoing e-mail, whether the attachments go through YouSendIt or not, will be saved in the Outlook "Sent Items" folder. Additionally, you can visit your YouSendIt account to track your "Inbox" and "Sent Items" for attachments, which were sent through the YouSendIt service.
+ Why do I not see any upload activity once I click the "Send" button?
If your attachment file size is greater than the configured threshold, the plug-in will move the email to YouSendIt's Uploading Folder and start the uploading activity in the background so you can continue to work on your other e-mail activities.
+ Where do I find out the upload progress status?
You can check the current upload activity by placing your mouse cursor on top of the progress bar next to the YouSendIt toolbar button as shown below.
+ Does this plug-in send the attachment to my ISP or company's e-mail server?
The plug-in uses the internet standard secured HTTPS protocol to communicate with YouSendIt's server. Read our
security overview.
+ Does the Outlook plug-in alter any behavior of Outlook besides sending attachments?
The plug-in does not alter the behavior of Outlook at all. It only intercepts e-mails with attachments which match the configured uploading criteria set by default or modified by users.
+ How come my image signature is treated as attachment?
The image signature detection depends on the availability of a Microsoft library CDO.DLL. If this library is missing, the image signature will be treated as e-mail attachment by Outlook.
According to Microsoft's support information regarding this CDO.DLL library for the Outlook 2003 environment, this library will only be available through the installation of Microsoft's Outlook 2003 when user selects the complete installation mode. If you choose the Typical installation mode, this library will not be installed.
+ I forwarded an email without an attachment but it still prompts me whether to use YouSendIt service?
Check if you have CDO.DLL installed in your system and whether you have images inside your e-mail; if both are true, you are subject to the above described behavior due to the missing CDO.DLL required to differentiate image within an e-mail versus actual attachment.
+ What happens to the attachment if network connection is disconnected during uploading?
When the network connection is established again, the plug-in resumes uploading the files from where it stopped.
+ How do I know there is an update to this plug-in?.
If there is future updates made available through YouSendIt, this plug-in will pop up a dialog box informing you about the updates and will guide you through the auto-update procedures. Be prepared that during updates, Outlook will first be shutdown; the existing plug-in will be uninstalled and followed the new version will be installed. Then Outlook will then be re-started.
+ What happens to the uploading activity when the machine is instructed to go Standby or Restart?
The uploading activity will be aborted. When the machine boots and after Outlook connects to the mail server, the pending upload will be re-started.
+ Does MSWORD crash or hang sometimes?
During our internal stress testing with sending multiple large files and editing multiple e-mails at the same time, we encountered situation where Microsoft Word might crash or hang if it is set as the default editor. According to Microsoft support information, low system resources (e.g. memory) could lead to Microsoft Word stop responding (hang).
Quit Outlook and try to bring up "Windows Task Manager" and observe if there are WINWORD processes running and occupy large memory footprint. If so and if you are not editing any documents, you should consider to "End" that process to see if the system can recover from the situation.
+ How do I uninstall Outlook plug-in?
Close Outlook if it's running. Open Control Panel by clicking on Start->Control Panel. Double click on Add or Remove Programs. Go towards the bottom of the list and select YouSendIt Plug-in for Outlook. Click on Remove button and follow the instructions to remove the plug-in.
+ When I try to install the Outlook plug-in it complains 'Outlook is running, please close Outlook and try installing again', but Outlook is not running.
Sometimes the outlook.exe process is still running even after you close the Outlook application. Open the Task Manager and look for the process named outlook.exe. If it's listed there, right click on it and select 'End Process'. This will close the outlook application completely.
+ I just sent a file using the Outlook plug-in but I don't see it in my Sent Items folder.
While the attachment is being uploaded, the email is placed in the Yousendit Outbox folder in Outlook. When upload is finished, the link to the file is inserted into the email and it is moved to the Sent Items folder.
+ Is the plug-in a resident application?
No, it does not run as a service and does not start up automatically at login or system start.
+ Why does my email file notification download link get broken into 2 parts?
